havarti

Some fun feist goin' on at TwinCities.com. Peruse some interesting comments in regards to this article.

squeee: [[The most serious was in 1990, when Arnold pleaded guilty to pointing his service weapon at a bar patron when he was drunk and off-duty. He also has reprimands in his file for failing to report to court as a witness, failure to complete required training and for causing several "preventable" car accidents.]]
Sure, the defendant doesn't sound like a spring chicken, but can anybody answer me why this swine is still serving as a law enforcement officer? It doesn't sound like she's got a drunk and disorderly assault with a deadly weapon charge in her career.

HannityFan: What is your issue with cops? I guess you think that cops don't do any good. This man will probably be helping to keep you and others safe at the GOP convention when it comes to town. His past is not the issue here, the issue is this nutjob that threatened his son. You have been watchng too much of the Clinton News Network.

squeee: Keep me safe from what? A couple hippie protesters and carousing Republican delegates? I'd rather have someone keep me safe from drunken, gun-wielding, power-hungry trigger-happy cops.
My personal defense is my own responsibility, thank you.

HannityFan: Squee, it isn't right to assume that one bad apple cop makes all of them bad. This is one of the most dangerous, most noble professions out there. You must be to dim to see that. You are probably think Alan Colmes is the voice of reason in this country. If we could just get back to God and family we would have a chance.

squeee: Hogwash.

Law enforcement doesn't even rank in in top 10--well under fishermen, trash collectors, and even food delivery drivers.
But hey--I'd gamble they take more lives than any other occupation does (other than the military). And rarely with accountability.
Thanks for the cliche, anyways. If it is any consolation, Colmes is as much of a sleazebag as Hannity is.
I think the "bad apple" cop is the rule, not the exception. Maybe I'll consider changing my mind when the bad cops fear the good ones instead of vis a vis.

8-bit warrior: A citizen protecting his and his families lives and property with his own weapon is far more noble, than a government paid thug that doesn't understand or comprehend the US Constitution. It's people like HannityFan that justify big government encroachment on MY rights.

Kojack: What's the matter Squeee, getting a few too many Parking Tickets? Sounds like you've got a pretty big axe to grind with the Cops. And just who would you call if you house was broken into, or your car was stolen? Not one of those "drunken, gun-wielding, power-hungry trigger-happy cops." now would you?

squeee: I've got the means to defend myself if needed. Only I can be responsible for my own property, and my insurance provider second. The government certainly does a bang-up job at protecting it, don't they? What good are the cops going to do? Show up and take notes afterwards?
Bravo, squeee and 8-bit warrior!

Since it is on-topic to a recent post and some comments this morning, let's see what batshit bananas Gravel recently had to say in an interview:
GRAVEL: Who would I be a good vice presidential pick for? I don't know if the Libertarian Party has had, since its foundation—and I say this most modestly—a bigger fish. They'd had Ron Paul and Bob Barr: Two congressmen. Two congressmen do not make a senator. Four congressman, maybe, make a senator, but not two congressmen.
Four Congressman in a Senator--remember that next time you're baking some Legislative pie. What a fantastic week.

Fundmentalist Church of FSP

Just as I'd dreamt the New Hampshire cult was done with its jigging hoopla and high-pressure sales tactics, I gets me an email through our Yahoo group from fmr. Chairman Ron Helwig:
With only 500 on the ground here in NH, we're already making things
happen. The New Hampshire Liberty Alliance ( http://nhliberty. org ) is
pretty much the most powerful citizens lobby at the state capitol. The
libertarian wing of the Republican party is growing quickly, and
making great progress. We even have a libertarian elected as a
Democrat in the state house. Even the state LP has the possibility to
be effective...
So, why the hell are you still in MN?
I moved almost 3 years ago now, and I haven't regretted it for a micro-second.
Brenn says,
The loose disparity 'tween NH and MN is minute, especially under the boot of the National government. Let me know when New Hampshire is "saved" and I'll reconsider uprooting and packing my afflictions.
Rondini objects,
Other than state police and highway patrol, the cops here aren't the enemy that they are in every other state. The local cops are mostly actual "peace officers" and not just "law enforcers".
Brenn-da replies,
When I can be acquitted in the course of killing one in self-defense, let me know. :)

Kool-Aid; YOU MUST DRINK IT.

I've got my helmet strapped tight to survive another couple work days to precede another copacetic Meryl'd weekend with a side of poker, and sleeping too, too late.

pee-ess: Ron, apologies for the unflattering screen cap, but hay--I didn't film it!

BANG

How are you celebrating the Shot Heard Round the World?

Oh, and
Record Store Day.

yea, no

Raise your balled-up grubby mitts in victory, fellow citizens of Mother Minnesota, our oft-nannying State House of Representatives has just prevented compliance with the REAL ID Act. We haven't quite joined the ranks of outspoken wonder Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer, but I suppose it is a small step away from the gaping maw of tyranny.

In other interesting news, Nate just posted "Chicago Lights" on the Jacobins myspace. Go, go listen, jerknuts.

Gravelly Libertarianism

Mike Gravel is batshit insane. And I don't mean tin-foil-hatty like me; I mean in utter completitiude.

I'd thought this piece of news was an unworthy mention when I read it; my interest was piqued for all of five minutes, and far below a level I would consider "excited". While I really did enjoy Gravel's taunting of the other Democratic presidential candidates (excepting that little gnome, Kucinich) I am completely horrified of his Libertarian nomination run. No, not horrified...actually, quite stoked to witness the trouncing he'll get from the purists.

...and in case you needed some gratuitous evidence of his barrels of kook:

Well, to conclude, HE IS COMING TO THE LPMN CONVENTION THIS COMING SUNDAY, APRIL 13th. Bring your helmet!

11:05 PM CORRECTION: 'bout 10:45 I got me a release from Mr. Stern reporting an error in his previous email; a representative from Senator Gravel's campaign will be coming. HOSES!
